Same-sex & LGBTQ+ wedding tailoring · Melbourne
Whether you're two brides, two grooms, or walking down the aisle on your own terms, you belong here.
Godwin Charli has been making made-to-measure wedding suits at our Melbourne boutique since 2007. Every suit starts with a private fitting, a conversation about who you are and how you want to look, and a cut built around your body rather than a rack size. Over 2,000 couples have been suited by Godwin and the team, and no two have wanted the same thing.
"When someone walks into our studio for a wedding fitting, I want them to leave feeling inspired, excited and heard - not like they've been squeezed into someone else's idea of what a suit should look like. This space is private, it's personal, and we're here to listen."

Wedding suits for every couple
01
Two suits, one wedding. The question we hear most from grooms is whether to match or contrast, and the honest answer is that it depends on the two of you. Matching works beautifully when you share the same fabric but split on colour, say a midnight navy beside a charcoal in the same cloth. Contrast works when your styles genuinely differ: complementary tones, different lapel shapes, one tie and one open collar, satin versus no satin tuxedos.
What matters more than the styling decision is the fit. We fit each partner separately, because two different bodies need two different patterns, and a wedding photo of two grooms only works when both suits sit perfectly. Once each suit is right on its own, we bring them together so you read as a couple, not a coincidence.

02
Off-the-rack women's suiting was never designed with your body or your vision in mind. We say that plainly because we see it in the fitting room every week: clients who are broader in the shoulders, more athletic through the seat, and tired of standard women's suits for weddings that pinch, pull, and quietly try to feminise a silhouette they never asked for.
Made to measure removes the compromise. Your suit is designed around your actual measurements and your actual aesthetic, whether that's sharp and structured, soft and relaxed, or somewhere you haven't seen in a shop window yet. We work across every body shape and proportion, not just regular sizes.
The styling range is wide. Some brides want a full tailored suit. Some want a blazer and vest, or separates they'll wear again. And in many of the weddings we style, one partner is in a suit while the other is in a dress, so we design the suit to hold its own beside it.
03
Your wedding look should reflect your identity, not a gender binary. At Godwin Charli, there is no strict men's pattern or women's pattern you have to choose between. Every detail of your garment - fabric, lining, buttons, construction and shape, is decided together in consultation, starting from how you want to look and feel on the day.
Fittings take place in our private Flinders Lane boutique. Your appointment is yours alone, never rushed, and never judged.

The process
Off-the-rack suiting assumes a standard body that simply doesn't exist, and for queer couples, those assumptions run even deeper. The cut assumes a gender. The sizing assumes a proportion. The shop floor assumes who's wearing what. Made to measure removes every one of those assumptions and replaces them with decisions you make yourself.

Yes. We fit each partner separately so every suit is cut for the individual body, then style the two garments together so you look intentionally matched on the day, whether that means same fabric in different colours or complementary contrasting looks.
Yes. There's no gendered starting point in our process. Silhouette, structure and fabric are all decided with you in consultation, and fittings are private and unhurried.
We recommend booking at least 3 to 4 months before your wedding date. This allows time for your consultation, fabric selection and fittings without rushing any stage.
No. Many couples book separate fittings, especially if the suits are a surprise. Others prefer to come in together. Either works, and we'll arrange appointments around you.
